Guide to a Stress-Free Newborn Session in Atlanta: Congratulations, Mama! Fast forward to your due date – You made it! The baby is here, and you are currently living in that blur of euphoric love, sleepless nights, and healing.
You know these tiny toes and sleepy smiles are going to change faster than you can blink. You want to bottle this moment up forever. But then you think about the reality of a photo shoot: Getting dressed? Leaving the house? What if the baby screams the whole time?
If that internal monologue sounds familiar, this post is for you.
At Maternity and Newborn Studio of Atlanta by Casey McMinn Photography, we specialize exclusively in newborns. That means our studio isn’t designed for us; it’s designed for you.
We hear your anxieties loud and clear. Here is exactly how we handle the 5 biggest fears new moms have about their newborn session.
Fear #1: “I have absolutely nothing to wear.”
You are 14 days postpartum. Your body is recovering, and you are likely living in sweatpants. The thought of finding an “outfit” that fits and makes you feel beautiful can feel impossible.
The Solution: You don’t need to bring a thing. Our studio features a fully curated client wardrobe. We have a gorgeous collection of flowing, flattering dresses, premium knits, and soft fabrics designed specifically to complement the postpartum body and look stunning in photos. You just show up; we dress you.

Fear #2: “My baby is going to cry or need to eat the entire time.”
You worry you’ll be the “difficult client” with the crying baby. You’re stressed that the session time will run out while you’re just trying to soothe or feed them.
The Solution: We don’t just hope for a sleepy baby; we prepare for one. I provide a complete Prep Guide to every client before their session. By following a few simple steps—like a full feeding right before you hop in the car—we set the stage for a perfect shoot.
Once you arrive, I handle the baby the entire time. My studio is carefully set to a cozy, warm temperature with a professional sound machine to mimic the womb. Because newborns have an incredible sense of smell, they can actually “scent” Mom’s milk from across the room! To keep them in that deep, peaceful sleep required for those adorable poses, I stay hands-on.
While I am expertly soothing, posing, and even bottle-feeding your little one, you get to truly relax. You can sit back and watch, or even better, spend that time in our hair and makeup chair getting pampered. By the time you’re ready for family portraits, the baby is settled, and you feel refreshed.

Fear #3: “Is my baby safe? I’ve seen scary photos online.”
The Solution: Safety is the foundation of every session. My expertise comes from years of professional experience and—perhaps most importantly—from raising three children of my own. I’ve been in your shoes three times over, and I handle your baby with the same fierce protection I gave my own.
While the “curly” artistic poses you see in my portfolio are carefully styled by me, they are always achieved through gentle, expert positioning that respects your baby’s comfort and anatomy. For many of my signature shots, I use a professional technique called “compositing.” This means your baby is physically supported by my hands (or an assistant’s) 100% of the time. I then work my magic in the editing room to “remove” the support, leaving only the beautiful, finished art. Your baby’s safety and well-being will always come before “getting the shot.

Fear #4: “I’m healing. I can’t be walking around or managing a toddler.”
Postpartum healing is real, and the thought of keeping a toddler happy and clean for an hour while you are in the hair and makeup chair feels like a recipe for a meltdown.
The Solution: We have a system designed for maximum peace. If siblings are involved, I recommend that Dad and the older children arrive towards the end of the session only when they are needed. This allows you to enjoy your hair and makeup in total silence and lets me focus on the newborn’s solo portraits first.
If the family needs to arrive all together, don’t worry—our studio is equipped with a dedicated waiting room filled with toys and snacks. The siblings can play and be themselves until it’s their turn in front of the camera, keeping the actual shooting space calm and quiet.
