When to book your newborn session | Newborn photography in Atlanta

When it comes to booking your newborn portrait session, the earlier the better. Newborn photography has become such a popular thing these days. Therefore, photographers are typically booked solid for months and months out. Something that every new mom should know is to book early. When you find out you’re pregnant and get past the 12 week mark, it is time to have newborn photography on your radar. You’ll want to start researching local photographers now. Not only do you want to check out those in your city, but also those in surrounding cities.

When researching and inquiring with newborn photographers you’ll want to first make sure that you love their style of photography. You’ll also want to make sure they fit what you need. Are you looking for a studio session, or, an in home session? Do you loved the posed newborn photos, or, lifestyle newborn photos?

In order to get the portraits you want, you’ll have to love the photographers style. You can find examples of work on a photographer’s website, as well as on their social media page.

Make sure to book your newborn photographer no later than your 20 week mark.

How do you schedule a newborn session if you don’t exactly know when the baby will be born?

I get this question a lot. How do we schedule a newborn session if we don’t know exactly when baby will arrive? At my studio, how this works is: When you book your session with me I will put your due date on my calendar. Then, when baby is born you’ll contact me. At that point we schedule a day 5 – 15 days after birth to do your portrait session.

5 – 15 days after birth is the best time to photograph your little one. Why? Because that’s when they’re still very fresh and little. They grow so fast! Most importantly, they’re still in that super sleepy stage. This is necessary for newborn portrait sessions. The goal is to have baby asleep the entire session. This is how I get all those cute little poses of him / her!

Prepping for your newborn portrait session | Newborn photography in Atlanta

At my studio I’ve got everything you’ll need, even down to outfits for the entire family. Therefore, you really don’t need to bring anything with you, except a pacifier and bottle for baby. My studio is equipped with a changing station. The changing station has all the essentials, including diapers, wipes, creams, lotions and a bottle warmer.

First, before you come to the studio just make sure to feed baby. That way they are good and full. A full baby makes a happy baby. Lastly, a full baby also makes a sleepy baby. Remember, that’s what were aiming for. Nevertheless, if baby needs to be fed during the session I will feed them a bottle for you so you can sit back and relax.
