Congratulations on your new arrival! As a new mom, it’s important to be prepared for your hospital stay. Here is a checklist of items you may want to consider bringing with you:

Hospital Checklist for Mom

  • Insurance information and ID
  • Comfortable clothes to wear during your stay, including nursing bras and maternity underwear
  • Toiletries, such as toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, and conditioner
  • Slippers or flip-flops for walking around the hospital
  • Nursing pillow or regular pillow for support during breastfeeding or sleeping
  • Phone charger and/or camera
  • Snacks and drinks, such as granola bars, crackers, and water bottles
  • Breast pads and nipple cream
  • Any medication you are currently taking, including prenatal vitamins

Hospital Checklist for Baby

  • Onesies and sleepers in various sizes
  • Diapers and wipes
  • Swaddling blankets
  • A hat to keep baby warm
  • A car seat (installed and ready to go)

It’s also a good idea to pack a small bag for your partner or support person, which could include a change of clothes, toiletries, and any items they may need to stay overnight.

Remember, your hospital may provide some of these items, so it’s best to check with them beforehand to avoid overpacking.

What Dads Should Bring | Hospital Checklist for New Moms

Dads or partners can play an important role in supporting new moms during their hospital stay. Here are some items they may want to consider bringing:

  • Comfortable clothes to wear during their stay
  • Toiletries, such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, and any other personal care items they may need
  • A phone charger and/or camera to capture special moments
  • Snacks and drinks, as hospital vending machines may not always be available
  • A change of clothes for the day after the baby is born, as they may want to go home and shower or freshen up before returning to the hospital
  • A list of important phone numbers, such as family members or friends to call with updates on the baby’s arrival
  • A book or other form of entertainment to pass the time during long waits or periods of rest
  • Any medication they are currently taking

It’s also a good idea for dads or partners to communicate with the new mom about their needs and preferences, and to be prepared to offer emotional support and encouragement during this exciting but often overwhelming time.
