If you aren’t familiar with how a newborn session works, they are shot during the first 3 weeks of baby’s life. That is when baby is still very much a newborn and still in the super sleepy stage. The super sleepy stage is critical, in order to get baby into those cute, snuggly poses we all know and love.
When are newborn sessions photographed?
At our Atlanta, GA newborn portrait studio we photograph baby during the first 3 weeks of their life. This timeframe is crucial because it’s when baby is in that super sleepy stage of life. The super sleepy stage is important. Why? This is how we curl them up and get them into their poses comfortably. If baby is awake, we will take a moment to get them settled by either feeding or rocking, or both. Once they fall asleep their newborn portrait session begins.

The day of your newborn portrait session is here. Being an Atlanta, GA newborn photographer, we pride ourselves in our top notch service, full service experience and fully prepping our clients, in order to have the best possible portrait session.
Before you leave your house
The morning of your newborn portrait session, you’ll want to do these things before you leave the house, in this order.
- When baby wakes up in the morning spend some time having play time or tummy time.
- Bathe baby.
- Lotion baby.
- Dress baby in a diaper (Avoid outfits, hats and socks – I will have to undress baby down to their diaper for pictures when you arrive, so, if we can avoid doing this and disturbing them less, the better.)
- Feed baby (This should be done right before you are about to leave to come to the studio. If you need to skip a feeding so you can feed right before you leave, that works too. However, that is if baby is ok with skipping the feeding.)
- Put baby in their car seat and wrap them with blankets so they do not get cold on the way to the studio.
What to bring with you
Since we are a full service studio, there isn’t much you have to bring. I know all the moms out there are singing praises right about now! As a mom of three, I love knowing where we are going has everything we need. Having a newborn can be stressful, so we want to take the stress out of everything we possibly can. That being said, all you need to bring with you is baby’s pacifier and a bottle. Really, that’s it! Our studio is equipped with a changing table, diapers, wipes, lotions, bottle warmer and more. So, you don’t have to worry about a thing! All clothing for parents and siblings is provided as well. And mom will love being pampered, since we provide hair and makeup for her. After having a baby some alone, pampering time is important. Literally, all you have to do is show up and we’ve got you covered!
